“Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known.”
– Carl Sagan
Through Science the children will learn to explore and investigate the natural and man-made worlds in which we live. We are using our senses all the time to explore the world around us. This encourages children’s natural curiosity and creativity, inspiring awe and wonder. Our reaction to a sensation feeds are next step, did we like it? how did it feel? can I do that again? we begin to understand cause and effects.
Science helps children to find new ways of looking at the world and to engage with changing explanations about how the world works. They learn to value ideas and see, talking, thinking, reacting, and imagining as they begin to developing understanding.
Some children tackle problems, form questions, generate and test ideas and decide how to seek solutions. They gather and make sense of evidence, test out hypothesis and evaluate processes and outcomes. They learn the possibilities of science, inspiring them to become scientists and responsive to the needs of others and the world in which they live.
At Kingfisher we use a variety of different teaching styles to engage the children in learning and exploring the world. for some children, this is about using their senses and full body investigations, and for others we encourage exploration, thinking and reasoning through scientific investigation and experimentation.
