Welcome to Kingfisher Special School

Message From the Executive Principal
Welcome to Kingfisher Special School’s website. Kingfisher Special School is a high quality provision based on the defining principals that underpin Kingfisher Learning Trust. Kingfisher caters for children aged 2-11 years with severe and complex Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and for children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
Halcyon Way is a free school within the Kingfisher Learning Trust, which opened in January 2022 and underpins the practice of Kingfisher Special School whilst meeting the needs of children with Severe to Moderate Learning Difficulties (SLD – MLD), including needs associated with Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN).
We pride ourselves on being a place of learning for both pupils and staff and are constantly researching and updating the ways in which the children access their learning, ensuring the best possible outcomes for each and every child.
The tree illustrates the clear vision and values that we work towards within school, ensuring that all children are safe, happy learners. As part of Kingfisher Learning Trust, Kingfisher Special School encompasses the Trust’s vision of ‘Endless Possibilities’, working creatively to find the best possible approaches in all aspects of its provision. With the support of the school staff, we endeavour to create optimum learning environments that match the learning needs of all children whilst offering an exciting, creative curriculum which allows them to learn in the best way possible.
In September 2021 we opened our new Ducklings Nursery which is for 2 year old children who need the specialist provision that Kingfisher Special School can offer them. This has proved to be a successful venture with the children settling quickly and already making great steps of progress.
I hope you all enjoy looking around the website and find it useful in gaining a clear insight into what we have to offer at Kingfisher Special School. There is also a virtual tour in the ‘Welcome to Kingfisher’ link in our ‘Useful Links’ section below.
I look forward to continuing to work with families – present and future – and making sure that Kingfisher Special School continues to offer outstanding provision to meet the needs of all the children.
Many Thanks,
Sue Caine
