What We Learnt Last Half Term
Trains, Planes and Automobiles
We have had a great half term in the Peacocks class and have focused our learning around the topic ‘Trains, Planes & Automobiles’
In English, we focused our learning around the Olympics. We used this as a focus to explore lists, simple sentences, captions & using ‘and’ to extend our ideas. We continued to develop our use of punctuation and our ability to proofread to check for sense.
In Maths, we continued to use our knowledge of counting up in steps of 2, 5 and 10 and applied this skill when using our daily ‘Snack Shop’. We continued to focus on the properties of 2D and 3D shape and explored the appropriate way of measuring capacity. We have started to explore subtraction using practical resources including number lines, 100 squares & mental methods.
In PE, we have focused on our key physical skills in swimming. We have had the opportunity to access the new pool to develop our movement skills in the water.
In Humanities, we have focused on change, for some including the upcoming transition to Senior Schools. The Year 6 leavers, have had the opportunity to explore their new school through images and research on the computer.
In Science, we focused on Seasonal Changes and Forces through sensory exploration & games. We explored the push and pull motion and used this knowledge to sort a variety of objects into groups. We had fun making paper aeroplanes and kites and then we tested these in the wind.
This half term, the children within the Peacocks class have been going on a wellbeing walk to Foxdenton Park. We have enjoyed accessing the benefits of physical activity whilst experiencing time outdoors.
