Planning & Teaching for Learning
Every child has a Personalised Learning Plan which combines all the information around each child from every professional involved, ensuring all their educational, health and social needs are recognised, planned for and ultimately fully met.
The children at Kingfisher are grouped into classes predominantly based on similarity of learning need. This enables optimum learning environments to be developed which meet the needs of all children. This also enables best use of staffing in that where appropriate, similar approaches and strategies can be established with groups of children.
A Total Communication approach supports all the children with their access to learning. Core approaches available to all children at all times are the use of symbols and Signalong which enhance children’s receptive and expressive language. Other approaches are also widely used as appropriate for individuals including sensory cueing, objects of reference, body signing, PECS and augmentative communication systems.
