Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

‘Teaching is the highest form of understanding.’ –Aristotle

Kingfisher Special School’s Teaching School, Schools with Schools, has been involved in Initial Teacher Training (ITT) for over 7 years. We are passionate about enabling trainee teachers to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to support them in achieving the Teacher Standards, through hands on experience in a range of real classrooms with support, guidance and inspiration from outstanding classroom practitioners.

What is School Direct?

School Direct is a route into teaching for trainees who already have a degree and want to spend as much time as possible in schools, learning their ‘craft’. Achievement of QTS is built into the course.

We work with the University of Cumbria and Leeds Beckett University to design and deliver the course materials, so you can be assured that the course has academic rigour and opportunities to learn theory, as well as plenty of practical ‘hands on’ experience.

For 2020-2021, we have two routes available:

General Primary (5-11 age range or specialising in the 3-7 age range) delivered through Mill Hills Primary

General Primary with Inclusion/SEND (5-11 years age range) developed with Everyone Learning teaching school alliance including Hawthorns School,  Lime Tree Primary Academy and New Bridge School in partnership with the University of Cumbria.
