Primary With SEND

Primary with Inclusion/SEND Specialism Route 2023-24

Working in partnership with the University of Cumbria, we are delighted to offer a one year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) programme of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) with a specific SEND focus, which will enable you to achieve the professional standards required for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and provide experience of working with children with a range of Special Educational Needs.

Our intention is to recruit up to 20 trainees for this course.

We will provide students with:

  • academic tuition through lectures, seminars and tutorials with both University and School based staff
  • teaching experience through placements in Mainstream and Special School provision across our partnership schools
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), the accreditation that enables you to teach in state-maintained and special schools in England and Wales.

Our PGCE programme focuses on the development of the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding that relate to learning and teaching in schools, with particular experience of working in Special Schools to gain an understanding of the wealth of teaching & learning strategies used to meet the needs of learners with SEND.
